Notre Dame football: Way too early awards for 2021

Defensive Player of the Year

Kyle Hamilton-S

I there anyone else it could be, really?

Kyle Hamilton is the best player at Notre Dame right now, and truly is one of the best players to ever play at Notre Dame under Brian Kelly. He’s an incredible athlete who erases half the field against the pass and crashes down on runners.

Hamilton is vital to Notre Dame Football having success going forward, and while on defense the linebackers might be getting more credit historically and defensive ends might be more important in the modern game, Hamilton’s success will make or break the Irish defense.

It’s not a question of will Hamilton be great, but how great will Hamilton be?

It also doesn’t hurt that Marcus Freeman has a history of developing All-Conference safeties at Cincinnati. Hamilton will be the defensive player of the year for Notre Dame in what very likely will be his final season in South Bend before going pro.
