Notre Dame football: Way too early awards for 2021

Offensive Player of the Year

Kyren Williams-RB

Jack Coan isn’t going to light anyone up through the air, and if Buchner gets his shot you can expect a conservative offense. In other words, no matter who plays quarterback in 2021, they’ll be relying on Kyren Williams to thrive.

Williams is the top running threat for Notre Dame. He’s going to set the tone, with his one cut and go running style that he used to put a stamp on Clemson in November. This will make things easier on the receivers and quarterbacks.

He’s also going to help an inexperienced offensive line in the passing game, though, as he’s widely considered the best pass-blocking back in all of college football. Add in an improved receiving ability, and Williams is the all-around back who thrives in the NFL.

Williams was the 2020 offensive player of the year, and he needs to be again in 2021 to take the pressure off the offensive line and shaky skills group. He is the perfect blend of rushing, pass-catching, and blocking, and could be playing his last season in South Bend.
