Jack Coan is stepping in to lead this Notre Dame Football program, and the Irish will be in good hands with him under center.

The Notre Dame Football team has had the luxury of having Ian Book under center for the past few seasons, leading the Irish to two College Football Playoffs, and setting the program’s record for most wins by a quarterback. As we turn towards the 2021 college football season, Book is trying to latch on in the NFL, and the Irish are left with Jack Coan taking over at the most important position in sports.

Luckily for the Irish, Coan has proven he can win, and win big at the FBS level, taking Wisconsin to a Big Ten title game two years ago. He did not play last season, as Graham Mertz emerged as the starter for the Badgers, but a fresh start with the Notre Dame Football program is going to benefit both Coan and the Irish.

Coan is not the playmaker with his legs that Book was, but he is an incredibly accurate passer and has some solid weapons around him.

For Coan, the Irish could not be a better landing spot for him, as he has the arm talent to make plays, and will be joining a Notre Dame Football team that has some high expectations. Sure, the team is losing a bunch of talent to the NFL Draft, but a bunch of depth remains, including a tremendous running back in Kyren Williams, and an elite tight end in Michael Mayer, two players who will serve as security blankets for him.

The future is on campus in Tyler Buchner, who put on a show on his first day of spring practice on Saturday, but for 2021, it will be up to Coan to keep this program moving in the right direction. He is a leader, has won on the big stage, and has a ton of experience, so in a year of transition, the Irish are in a good position to continue their winning ways.
