The Notre Dame Football team has some exciting playmakers at wide receiver, as the position group is suddenly becoming a strength.

Last season, the Notre Dame Football team was led at wide receiver by two players who are trying to latch on at the NFL level this spring. Javon McKinley and Ben Skowronek were the top two options for Ian Book at the position group, which means the Irish will need new faces to step up in a big way in 2021.

Solid options are returning, including guys like Avery Davis, Braden Lenzy, and Kevin Austin Jr. All three of them coming into this season with experience, but despite being big-time recruits when the Irish landed them, none have really come into their own yet, outside of possibly Davis, who had nearly 400 yards from scrimmage this past season.

As we inch closer to the Blue-Gold game, we are already seeing some players step up in spring practice, including Xavier Watts, who has been a highlight reel early on. Also, the Irish have some outstanding incoming freshmen in Lorenzo Styles Jr., Jayden Thomas, and Deion Colzie, and Styles has looked very strong early on.

Notre Dame Football may be loaded at wide receiver

Suddenly, it looks like a position that had plenty of question marks coming into this season could end up being filled with depth. Jordan Johnson was rated a top-5 wide receiver in the country coming out of High School, and after playing sparingly in 2020, is someone who new quarterback Jack Coan will likely lean on in 2021.

We are only a few days into spring practice, but the level of talent at the position group is starting to stand out. What was once considered a major question mark, suddenly looks loaded, and when you throw in that the Irish have an elite running back, and tight end, the skill positions look very strong entering next season.

This is a Notre Dame Football team that is losing talent on both sides of the ball this offseason, but the fact that the wide receiver group looks so good early on is a huge relief. Kyren Williams and Michael Mayer are expected to be the keys to this offense in 2021, but if a few of their talented wideout step up, the Irish offense could be even more dominant than they were a year ago.
