Notre Dame Football: 5 Things to Watch for during 2021 Pro Day

Just How Athletic Does Liam Eichenberg Test

Just about everyone agrees that Liam Eichenberg is one of the top tackle prospects in this year’s draft, and the best available lineman coming out of Notre Dame. As the Irish have gained a reputation for their linemen becoming NFL stars, it’s no surprise he’s one of the headliners at the Notre Dame pro day.

Just looking at Eichnerberg’s tape, you see a solid all-around left tackle. He’s big and strong, there’s no doubt of that, and he dominates the lineman across from him because of it in the passing and rushing game. He’s tough too.

Anyone who remembers Eichenberg’s eye swelling up, only to have him play half-blind. If there’s a knock on Eichenberg, it’s his athleticism. On something like a screen, where he might need to get outside and block a smaller faster player, this can be an issue. He has the same trouble against fast pass rushers.

Eichenberg doesn’t love the questions about his athleticism, but he is aware of them. Now, he’ll have a chance to do something about them.

If Eichenberg puts together a good pro day, particularly in the drills to show his athleticism, he can help solidify himself as a first-round pick. That means a good three-cone drill, and other, similar, drills will be vital to him.
