Notre Dame Football: 5 Things to Watch for during 2021 Pro Day

How Versatile is Aaron Banks?

Aaron Banks has been a great offensive lineman and guard for Notre Dame the past few seasons, and he’s going to be a second or third-round pick in the draft, assuming everything tests fine for him. However, he almost didn’t go into the draft. He almost opted to use his extra year of eligibility from the pandemic to come back to Notre Dame and play tackle.

Why would he do this? He has a degree and stands to start making good money in the NFL. He almost went back to Notre Dame to play tackle and prove he was a versatile player. That versatility is key to NFL offensive linemen, particularly ones who aren’t good enough to start at their natural position right away.

It lets them fill in for players who get injured at any position, which helps them make a roster, which suffers from being limited in size at the NFL level. It also means that even if they can’t make it to the gameday roster, there is still a spot for them on a practice squad.

Banks has a chance to show his ability to go from position to position, particularly in various footwork drills. By showing good footwork and hand placement, Banks can show he is the versatile lineman that NFL teams need.
