Notre Dame Football: Early look at 2023 recruiting class targets

Dante Moore, QB, Martin Luther King

Tyler Buchner is undoubtedly looked upon as the future to both the Notre Dame coaching staff and fans alike. But, if he does pan out, and projects to be the elite QB1 we think he will be in years to come, 2023 could be his last season before departing for the draft.

That leaves the Irish with Ron Powlus III and Steve Angeli (Assuming that Drew Pyne and Brendan Clark are no longer in South Bend) in the quarterback room. It is key to land an elite addition to that room, Dante Moore is the answer.

A pro-style quarterback with obvious athleticism, Moore stands 6’2″ and weighs 195 lbs, and he can flat out sling the rock. For being such a young quarterback, his ability to go through progressions and read the defense he’s matched up against is beyond his years.

He can throw the deep ball and he is precisely accurate. By watching his tape, you can see that he oftentimes has to bail out his offensive line and display Patrick Mahomes II’s playmaking type ability. Recruiting analysts have raved about him at camps and Notre Dame would welcome him with open arms.

When you are the 15th overall recruit in the country and 3rd best pro-style quarterback, according to 247 sports, it is pretty obvious that all of the top programs will do whatever they can to receive his verbal commitment. He has received offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, and Tennessee.

The word on the street is, though, that the top two current contenders for the elite signal-caller are in-state powerhouse Michigan and Notre Dame, and fans should be excited about this one. Michigan has seen major turnover in their coaching staff and as a result, the Irish have been sticking it to the Wolverines in recent months recruiting-wise, and while that has mostly been on the defensive side of the ball, could this translate to the offense? Notre Dame surely hopes so and would love to land Moore for their 2023 class.
