Notre Dame Baseball: Irish projected to host in projected Field of 64
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame Baseball team has a huge series coming up against Georgia Tech and was recently projected as a host team for the Field of 64.
The Notre Dame Baseball team is enjoying a terrific 2021 college baseball season, one that has seen them dominate no matter who the opponent has been. After another road series win against the Pittsburgh Panthers, the Irish will now play host to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, who come into the series with a No. 14 ranking in the country.
Notre Dame Baseball will kick off this series against Georgia Tech on Friday, and that will start a nice string of home games for the Irish. In fact, Notre Dame will play 15 of their next 19 games at home, and after their solid start to the season, there is no reason why they can’t be a top-10 team before this run is all said and done.
As it stands now, the Irish are in a prime position to not only make the College Baseball Tournament but actually be a host team.
Notre Dame Baseball a host team in projected Field of 64
Baseball America recently updated their projected Field of 64 for the 2021 College Baseball Tournament, and the Irish were projected as a host team in a four-team bracket to kick off the event. The Irish have been one of the best teams in the country this season, led offensively by Niko Kadaras and Carter Putz, two players who have a chance to leave the yard every time they step up to the plate.
In the projection, the Irish will be the host team and the No. 1 seed, with Indiana State at No. 2, LSU at No. 3, and Wright State at No. 4. That would be a nice group of four for the Irish to come out on top of, clinching a spot in the next round.
Andy Archer will pitch Game 2 of this series on Saturday, and he has been lights out for the Irish this season. Archer will go into the game sporting a 4-2 record, and a tiny 1.86 earned run average, and hopefully, if the Irish can get a win on Friday, he can clinch the series for Notre Dame.
