Notre Dame Football: Which games should be in prime time in 2021?
Looking at some solid matchups
Hosting Cincinnati is a huge game, and it’s even possible that this could entice College Gameday to make a trip. Cincinnati is coming off one of the best seasons in program history and showing no signs of slowing down. Plus, the storyline of Brian Kelly and Marcus Freeman facing their former team will be a big storyline.
That leaves us with seven games remaining.
Of those games, a late-season road trip to Virginia is the least interesting. Virginia could be a .500 team that’s better than their record shows, but they’re likely not a contender. An early game against Illinois will go a long way in showing how much this Cavalier team has to improve, but this should be a noon or 3:30 kick, and since it’s a road game, I could see this being an 8:00 PM ACC Network kickoff.
The road trip to Virginia Tech is an intriguing one. Their floor appears to be seven wins, which means they’ll be a solid group this year. The Hokies love their biggest games at night, and Enter Sandman at night is one of the best sights in college football.
If Virginia Tech beats one or both of North Carolina or West Virginia, this is a lock for prime time. If they lose both, it’s still not out of the question, but 3:30 is much more likely.
Now we start getting into legitimate big game territory.
