Notre Dame Football: Biggest NFL Draft steals of all-time

Dave Duerson-DB

  • 1983 Draft: Round 3, Pick 64

Dave Duerson was taken by the Chicago Bears in the third round of the 1983 NFL Draft, and they got more than anyone can realistically expect from a third-round pick. That shouldn’t necessarily be surprising, though, as he was an All-American and Captain of the Notre Dame defense.

When he got to Chicago, Duerson took an elite Chicago Bears defense by storm. He’d be a four-time Pro Bowler, making in every season from 1985-1988. He was also second-team All-Pro twice during that span, as well as being the 1987 NFL Man of the Year.

Duerson was also a part of the 1985 Super Bowl team, today remembered as one of the best, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.

In 1990, Duerson moved on from the Bears and went to the New York Giants, where he won another Super Bowl. From there, he played three seasons with the Phoenix Cardinals before retirement. Today, Duerson is remembered as one of the 100 Greatest Bears of All-Time.
