Notre Dame Football: Biggest NFL Draft steals of all-time

Bob Kuechenberg-Guard

  • 1969 Draft: Round 4, Pick 80

Bob Kuechenberg made a name for himself at Notre Dame, where he played on both sides of the ball. His NFL career, however, started slow. He was originally a Philadelphia Eagle, but he quit in training camp of his rookie season. Instead, he played for the Chicago Owls, who were a part of the Continental Football League.

After that season, he signed a contract with the Miami Dolphins, and that’s when his career took off.

In Miami, Kuechenberg would win two Super Bowls, including being a part of the 1973 undefeated season under Don Shula. He wasn’t just on the team, though, he was one of its most important members. Kuechenberg was a six-time Pro Bowl selection, a two-time 1st team All-Pro, as well as a 2nd team All-Pro selection with Miami.

Later in life, Kuechenberg earned a reputation as being a grumpy old man who people didn’t like to be around. Still, that hasn’t stopped him from being in the Miami Dolphins Honor Roll.
