Notre Dame Football: Biggest NFL Draft steals of all-time

Wayne Millner-End

  • 1936 Draft: Round 8, Pick 65

Wayne Millner was under-drafted and overlooked in the very first NFL Draft. Surprisingly, he fell so far, given his career at Notre Dame. Millner was a consensus All-American who played all over the field.

He even caught the game-winning pass from Bill Shakespeare to beat Ohio State in a “Game of the Century.” It was all part of a College Football Hall of Fame career.

The funny thing is that his College Football Hall of Fame career proceeded with his Pro Football Hall of Fame career. Still, nobody noticed him to take him in any of the first seven rounds of the Draft. By the time Boston, who later moved to Washington, took him, Millner had become one of the most overlooked prospects of all time.

A member of the Washington Ring of Honor, 1930s all-decade team, and an NFL Champion in 1937, Millner was one of the greatest early football players. Millner would be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1968.
