Notre Dame Football: Q&A with 4-Star commit Tyson Ford

Talking Football

If Notre Dame Football fans were not already aware, Tyson Ford is a pretty good football player. And by pretty good, I mean elite. Popping on his tape, it is fairly obvious that Ford towers over his opponents and dominates the edge with freakish athleticism and speed, and plays a huge role in controlling what opposing offenses can run against him.

First, we dove into his skill set, and then what his plans are this offseason.

SlaptheSign.com’s Blake Soffa: “Let’s talk a little bit about your skillset. Coming in at 6’6″ 260 lbs, we kind of assume you are going to be playing the strongside defensive end position. What do you think you’re going to bring to the gridiron at that edge position?”

Tyson Ford: “Really, I’m just going to bring leadership. I’m going to bring effort and give 100% of everything that I have. I’m going to be ready to just go out there and dominate football games, make a name for myself, and make a bigger name for Notre Dame than it already is.”

Missouri high school football is in their off-season for football, and as a result, I was curious to know what Ford’s weekly routines look like in the spring of 2021.

Soffa: “What’s your off-season look like? What are you doing to stay locked in, condition your body, and continue developing your skills?”

Ford: “Monday I usually have 1 on 1 training with my D-Line trainer. I’m actually working with Sutton Smith…Tuesdays I have 1 on 1 training and lifting after school…”

Sutton Smith was drafted in the 6th round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Steelers, and he is working with Ford multiple days a week on his defensive lineman skills. He also trains with an elite football academy to improve his skills, hits the weight room multiple days a week after school, and even lifts with his cousin on Sundays.

Even during the off-season, there is no off-season for Ford and the Irish staff and fans alike have to be thrilled with that.
