Notre Dame Football: Marcus Freeman has veteran group of LBs in 2021
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame Football program brought in Marcus Freeman as their defensive coordinator, and his specialty is working with the linebackers.
This season, the Notre Dame Football program will turn to Marcus Freeman to take over for Clark Lea as the team’s defensive coordinator, as Lea went to his alma mater, Vanderbilt, to take over as head coach. Freeman was priority No. 1 for head coach Brian Kelly when it came to naming a successor for Lea, and they got there man, but not before a quick scare from LSU.
With Freeman in the fold, the Irish are already seeing the benefits, as he is not only an elite coach on the sidelines but also an elite recruiter. He is going to help this Notre Dame program reach new heights in terms of recruiting, but on the coaching side, look for him to improve a veteran group of linebackers in 2021.
Freeman is widely regarded as one of the best linebacker coaches in all of football, on any level, as he was even offered a linebacker coach job in the NFL two years ago. The group he is inheriting in South Bend has the talent to be a special one, and they appear to have the right guy at the helm entering this crucial 2021 campaign.
