Ranking the Notre Dame Football QBs most likely to transfer

No. 2: Ron Powlus III

When he committed to the Notre Dame football program in December of 2020, Ron Powlus III became a legacy, as he is following in the footsteps of his father, Ron Powlus. From 1994 through the 1997 college football season, Powlus became a legend at Notre Dame, was a two-time captain, and one of the better signal-callers in recent memory.

The young Powlus came to the Irish as a three-star recruit, signing with Notre Dame over the likes of Kentucky, Indiana State, Bowling Green, and Central Michigan. Rated the No. 72 Pro-Style quarterbacks in the country by Rivals, Powlus has a tough road ahead of him if he hopes to be a starter in South Bend.

First, he has a higher-rated prospect ahead of him in his own class in Tyler Buchner, a player who many believe is the next great signal-caller for the Irish. Second, he is currently dead last on a depth chart that has a bunch of young talent on it, which means if he wants to start at the collegiate level, it may have to be elsewhere.

Of course, we have seen players come out of nowhere to start for the Irish, and that could be the case with Powlus, so we are not writing him off yet. The issue is the depth at the position, and with Steve Angeli joining the fold next year, Powlus could be the odd man out.
