Notre Dame Football: 3-star recruits who had big impacts under Brian Kelly

2016: Julian Love

During his time at Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park, Illinois, Julian Love played so well that the Chicago Times named him their Player of the Year. That began a tremendous run that saw him land in South Bend, and played at such a high level that he was able to leave school early for the NFL Draft.

A fourth-round pick of the New York Giants in the 2019 NFL Draft, Love burst onto the scene at Notre Dame, starting 12 games as a freshman. The following season, Love had three interceptions for the Irish, and a junior, he was named to numerous watch lists, including the Jim Thorpe and Nagurski Award.

An All-American, Love did in fact leave after his junior season, but not before setting the Notre Dame football career record for pass breakups. He has carved out a solid NFL career as well, missing only one game across his first two seasons, and will be expected to lead a Giants defense that was a lot better than advertised last year in 2021.
