Notre Dame Football: 3-star recruits who had big impacts under Brian Kelly

2010: Tommy Rees

It was an interesting career for Tommy Rees with the Irish, as he played sparingly as a freshman and then took over as a sophomore, posting a remarkable season. Rees finished his sophomore season with nearly 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns, and it looked like the Irish had found their starter for the next three seasons.

However, Rees would be suspended for the first game of the 2012 college football season, which started a junior campaign that saw him lose the starting job to Everett Golson and start only two games. In 2014, he rebounded in a big way, throwing for over 3,200 yards and 27 touchdowns, leaving school in the top-5 in plenty of statistical categories.

Currently, Rees is the offensive coordinator for the Irish.

You never know how a prospect will turn out, as some five-star guys fizzle out when they get to college, and some lower-star players work their way up to being All-Americans. The Irish have a nice crop of talent coming in this season, some of who are three-star guys, and it will be fun to watch where their careers take them over the next three-plus seasons in South Bend.
