Notre Dame Football: 2021 NFL Draft predictions from the SlaptheSign.com staff

Ian Book (QB)

Connor McJunkin: Round 7, Pick 255, New Orleans Saints

Being the winningest quarterback in Notre Dame history and one of the more athletic quarterbacks in this year’s draft has to count for something. Although Book was inconsistent at times in his college career, his resume and athleticism are hard to ignore.

He seems like a perfect fit for the Saints who are currently in quarterback purgatory. Book’s athleticism even reminds me of Taysom Hill. A stable franchise like New Orleans would be a great place for Book to grow and develop without the pressure of having to start right away.

Jack Leniart: Round 6, Pick 211, Cleveland Browns

Book will likely be drafted to be a solid backup quarterback. The best fits for him are teams whose offenses are tailored to fit the skillsets of smaller athletic quarterbacks. Cleveland is one of those teams. The Browns already have a starting quarterback in Baker Mayfield, but they do not have a backup with a similar skillset.

If Mayfield were to get injured, they would have to adjust their offense. However, if they had a player like Book as their backup, the transition would be more seamless.

Andrew Hall: Round 6

I think it is a lock that Ian Book will get drafted. His experience, athleticism, and production in college might indicate that he should be taken earlier, but I think he will hear his name called on the third day of the NFL Draft.

Brad Weiss: Round 6, Pick No. 217, Pittsburgh Steelers

There is something about the fit in Pittsburgh that I like, and I certainly do not believe that Book lasts until the seventh round. In Pittsburgh, he would have a chance to learn from a future Hall of Famer in Ben Roethlisberger, giving him the time, and knowledge to grow at the next level.
