Liam Eichenberg falls out of the first round

Liam Eichenberg also hoped to hear his name called in his hometown on the first night but that must wait another day. Because Liam Eichenberg was not picked in the first round of the NFL Draft, it ends Brian Kelly’s streak of having a first-round tackle starting in each of his 11 seasons as the Notre Dame football head coach.

Eichenberg currently ranks as the seventh-best available player on ESPN.

The night began with little surprise as Clemson Quarterback Trevor Lawrence and BYU Quarterback Zach Wilson. Tons of surprises followed when the 49ers selected North Dakota State signal-caller Trey Lance, the Bears traded up to pick Ohio State Quarterback Justin Fields, and former NBC broadcaster Mike Mayock once again reached for a player on draft night.

A few head-scratchers ended the evening with New Orleans and Green Bay reaching for Houston defensive end Payton Turner and Eric Stokes respectively.

Here are the former Notre Dame players who could hear their name called on Friday during the second and third rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft.
