Notre Dame Football shut out of first round for second straight year
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame Football team was rumored to have two players selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but they were once again shut out.
32 selection came and went during the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, with surprises up and down the draft board. One huge surprise was the fact that the Notre Dame Football program was completely shut out of the first round, something that has now happened two drafts in a row.
Last year, the first member of the Notre Dame Football team to come off the board was Cole Kmet, who went at pick No. 48 to the Chicago Bears. The Irish should have a tight end come off the board on Day 2 again in 2021, as Tommy Tremble is widely considered the third-best player at the position group in this draft class.
For most experts, star linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah should have gone early in the first round, as one mock had him going all the way up at No. 9 to the Denver Broncos. Instead, he was not selected at all, and the same went for Liam Eichenberg, who was a fringe first-rounder coming in.
Notre Dame Football stars should go early on Friday night
Despite being shut out of the first round, we could see a run on Notre Dame Football players during Day 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft. From Owusu-Koramoah to Eichenberg, to Tremble, those three could go early, with the likes of Robert Hainsey and Aaron Banks also going within the second and third rounds.
Still, it was pretty shocking that JOK did not go in the first round, as he is one of the more versatile defensive players in this draft class, and has the ability to not only come up and make the big hit but also is elite in coverage.
The Day 2 draft coverage will kick off at 8 PM ET on Friday night, and hopefully, the Notre Dame Football team has more luck than they did on Thursday. There is a ton of talent coming out this year, so get ready for what should be an exciting night to kick off your weekend.
