Notre Dame Football needs some players to step up on defense, and Isaiah Foskey could be one of the bigger stars for the Irish in 2021.

Looking at the Notre Dame Football program for the 2021 college football season, there is a ton of question marks on both sides of the ball. The offense is losing their signal-caller in Ian Book, as well as eighty percent of their starting offensive line, while the defense is losing their leader in Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.

Fortunately, when you are Notre Dame, there is more than enough talent remaining, and that is certainly the case upfront along the defensive line. This should be an area of strength for the Irish, and in Isaiah Foskey, they have a player that could be in for what should be a monster season this Fall.

Notre Dame Football losing key edge rushers in 2021

In the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Irish saw two of their key edge rushers come off the board in Daelin Hayes and Ade Ogundeji. That will leave a lot of snaps to be had at the position group heading into next season, and Foskey is a player that is going to have to step up and fill that role.

Foskey was not a huge recruit coming out of De La Salle High School, but he quietly had a solid season in 2020. Against Pitt, he blocked a punt and ran it back for a touchdown, showing incredible athleticism on the play.

With both Hayes and Ogundeji gone, Foskey’s athleticism will be on full display in 2021, and he has the size, and speed to be a real menace coming off the edge. Notre Dame Football is going to have to be solid on defense with so many question marks on offense, and you can believe that Marcus Freeman is going to find plenty of ways to utilize Foskey’s freakish athleticism.

Many people believe that both Kyle Hamilton and Jarrett Patterson should be first-round picks in 2022, and that could certainly be the case. However, one 2022 mock draft has three members of the Notre Dame Football program going in Round 1, with Foskey being the third, and a big season in 2021 could get him there when all is said and done.
