Notre Dame Football: Now is the time for Brian Kelly to strike in the transfer portal

What could Kelly do?

So, what should Brian Kelly do? Should he try and develop players as quickly as possible over the summer, scheme to put players in the best position to win possible, and trust that the guys on the roster do what they need to do to improve physically?

Well, yes. Obviously, that’s where Kelly and the team need to start. It’s just not the only thing they should do. Now, thanks to the transfer portal and the one-time transfer rule, the Irish have a chance to build their roster up over the summer months too.

In other words, now is the time for Notre Dame to dip into the transfer portal and build up their roster through this quick fix.

Oftentimes, this is seen as a quick fix, but in negative terms. This is a positive thing. With a transfer, you bring in a player who has been in a college weight room and been developing with college coaches.

They’re much better molded and much less raw than even a stud high school recruit. Furthermore, in the modern game, you’re probably going to be getting them for multiple seasons. So, it’s not like this quick fix isn’t also a long-term investment.

There are also plenty of players out there to be had, as the transfer portal is affecting every single team in college football in a significant way. On 247’s transfer portal, there are too many to count but literally thousands of players who have transferred or are transferring. Theo Howard of Oklahoma, Nolan Groulx of Wake Forest, and Marquis Spiker of Washington are just a few of the wide receivers looking for a new home.
