Notre Dame Football 2021 Opponent Preview: Toledo Rockets
Bottom Line on the Toledo Rockets
Toledo has had one of the best programs in the MAC in recent years, with head coach Jason Candle working his way up at Toledo from tight ends coach in 2009. They’ll be a strong team in the MAC again in 2021, but this only going to get them so far when it comes to playing top-level competition.
They’ll need to rely on their speed and coaching to have any chance of scaring Notre Dame in South Bend.
The truth is that Toledo is incredibly undersized, and given their lack of experience at quarterback, things could get ugly quick for the Rockets if they don’t control the line of scrimmage. So, if Notre Dame’s offensive line is going to struggle as it tries to replace four starters, there could be issues.
Too Early Prediction
You can talk yourself into a lot of different teams on the schedule as being potential upsets, and Toledo is significantly better than a lot of teams in the MAC, like Bowling Green. You can even look at Notre Dame and see weak points, but the reality is that the natural talent gap here is ridiculous.
Notre Dame can put five to ten players in the NFL every year. Toledo might put in one. There’s no reason why this should be close at all.
