Notre Dame Football: 3 new potential impact players on defense in 2021

No. 2: Gabriel Rubio

As is the case on all three levels of the defense, the Irish have a lot of veteran talent up front along the defensive line, especially on the interior. Players like Jayson Ademilola and Kurt Hinish have been through some battles during their time at Notre Dame, and both will be expected to take on leadership roles in 2021.

While there is veteran talent at defensive tackle, true freshman Gabriel Rubio is a player that is going to cause some havoc this summer. This kid was one of the top recruits for Brian Kelly and his staff this year, and there is no reason why he won’t be in a rotation at defensive tackle as a true freshman.

Rubio is not only big enough to compete at the collegiate level right now, but he has incredible athleticism for a player his size. Kelly and his staff are going to love what he brings to the table, and learning under so many solid veterans is going to make him an elite player down the road for the Irish.
