The Notre Dame Football team has had some great cornerbacks under Brian Kelly, and a recent one was recently named a ‘hidden gem’ at the next level.

During his time with the Notre Dame Football program, Julian Love stepped onto campus, and right onto the field, starting as a true freshman. From there, Love would spend the next three seasons preparing himself for the NFL, and in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the New York Giants would come calling, taking him with the No. 108 overall selection.

With the Giants, Love has appeared in all but one game across his first two seasons, making 11 starts, and showing the kind of potential that could land him a starting job in 2021. Last season, he racked up 64 tackles, had three passes defended for the second straight year, and had an interception, the second of his career.

In a piece recently put together by Daniel Friedman over at GMENHQ, he discussed three players on the 2021 New York Giants that could be hidden gems this season, and Love was one of them. Still a very young cornerback, Love has

Notre Dame Football will rely on veteran defense in 2021

The big question for the 2021 Notre Dame Football defense is what will Marcus Freeman do in Year 1 with the Irish. This is a defensive coordinator that was highly-coveted by many teams, including those at the NFL level, and he was certainly the No. 1 guy on Brian Kelly’s list.

Coming from Cincinnati, he is going to have a lot more resources than he previously had, and we have already seen what he can do on the recruiting trail. He takes over an Irish defense that lost talent to the NFL Draft but has a ton of veteran leadership returning, and that could lead to another outstanding season for Notre Dame Football.

The hope is, both Love and the Irish can put together standout 2021 seasons, as one is still looking to become a mainstay at the NFL level, and one is looking to stay a powerhouse at the collegiate level. Love had a tremendous career in South Bend, and in 2021, he could end up being a huge piece of the puzzle for the New York Giants.
