Notre Dame Football: 3 Reasons Chris Tyree will play a bigger role 2021

The Irish lack quality depth at wide receiver

Wide receiver is a position group on Notre Dame’s roster with plenty of questions surrounding it heading into the 2021 season. Because of that, it is possible that offensive coordinator Tommy Rees will use more personnel groupings with two running backs, utilizing both Williams and Tyree on the field at the same time.

Rees has previously talked about how he adjusts his offensive schemes based on the personnel he has on the roster. If I had to pick the best five offensive skill position players on the 2021 Notre Dame football team, I would include Chris Tyree, and he has the ability to even go out on the edge and play some wide receiver if need be.

I expect to see Tyree moved around the offensive alignment this season, as the Irish are going to want to take advantage of his game-breaking ability any chance they can get. He could take a handoff on a jet sweep, catch a screen pass, run a route against a linebacker, or be used a decoy, and in any of those situations, the odds are good for some chunk yardage.
