Notre Dame football: 3 true freshmen on offense to thrive in a backup role

Audric Estime, RB

We now turn our attention to the running back position, a position group that could be one of the best collections of talent in the country. The Irish have a star in Kyren Williams, who racked up over 1,000 yards on the ground as a redshirt freshman last season, and he has an outstanding No. 2 in Chris Tyree, who flashed signs of brilliance as a true freshman in 2020.

Overall, the group is loaded, as C’Bo Flemister returns, and two true freshmen join the fold in Audric Estime and Logan Diggs. While Diggs may be a year away from having a real impact on the field, Estime is ready to contribute right away and has the size, and speed needed to dominate at the collegiate level down the line.

However, in Year 1, it is likely best for Estime to learn behind the likes of Williams and Tyree, get used to the collegiate game, and be ready to take over in a year or so. He showed during his time in high school that no moment is too big, so if he does get a shot to do some damage as a true freshman, there is no doubt he is going to take it.
