Notre Dame football: Interview with 2022 commit Tyson Ford

Coach Kelly and the 4 for 40 message

Smith: Were you able to spend time with Brian Kelly?

"Ford: “I was able to spend time with him. I met with him my last day. We spoke, we had about a 30 minute conversation and he just told me what he expected of me coming up there. He said, coming in playing spring ball that he expects me to be ready for my freshman season. And he said, I just need to be up there and help them win a national championship and also they want to help me graduate from Notre Dame and get my degree. So, I just really realized that I’m going up there for business and he knows that. So, I just want to go there, make him proud so we can all be happy.”"

Smith:  “Win that national championship one day Right?”

"Ford: “Yeah.”"

Smith: What do you think about the 4 For 40 Message?

"Ford: “It’s great, that’s kind of what I’ve been preaching since I committed on January 18th. This is something no other school can offer. You know, with the network and connections, you’re really set up for life with a degree from Notre Dame. This is what a lot of recruits don’t realize, you know, they only think about the future, like college and the NFL, but they don’t really think about it after that. So I just think that’s something that I really wanted to focus on and I was happy. I was able to, kind of notice that about people, how they don’t really focus on that part of the future. Because it’s really important, but you don’t want to be struggling to figure out who you are after football. That’s really what you don’t want to do.”"

Smith: “That’s why this pitch has been one of the best in college football and In having a number two class right now that 4 for 40, I know has gotten a lot of people thinking like, wow, this might be a great place. I need to end up playing here for my family, for myself and, for other aspects as well.”

"Ford: “I think Coach Freeman, he was a big part of the great recruits that are coming in. I think he really preached that. I know he did when he recruited me. So I’m sure that’s a big part of it.”"
