Notre Dame football: Interview with 2022 commit Tyson Ford
Marcus Freeman
Smith: How was your time with Marcus Freeman this weekend?
"Ford: “It was great. He was with us from the start today and I couldn’t, I couldn’t get away from him, but he’s a great coach. He knows I want to be a defensive coordinator one day. So just having those talks about football, I think that’s the best part with all the coaches, from Coach Elston to him. The talks about just football, defensive strategies, and different formations and everything. This is great learning from them. It’s not just about football, but you can really have conversations with them. Like they truly care. They’re really personal with you so I love that about them.”"
Smith: “And those are the best coaches. You know, the ones that don’t just care about football, the ones that care about you and genuinely want to see you succeed over themselves. Those are the best coaches. That’s how I know Marcus Freeman even before stepping foot to coach for Notre Dame that he’s going to be a great head coach one day sooner rather than later.”
"Ford: “Yeah I know that for a fact. I hope it’s after I leave, but you never know.”"
Smith: Have the coaches told you how they’re going to utilize you in Marcus Freemans Defense?
"Ford: “Yes they have so they’re still going to run a traditional 4-3. So they’re going to have two Defensive ends and that Vyper, which is usually the smaller, quicker Defensive ends and have just the regular being me, and I’m going to be the regular big defensive end. Just be able to stop the run and stop the pass. They want me in between about 260 and 280, and I’m at 265 right now. I think I’m going try to drop to about 250 or 245 now, so I can just focus on bulking up when I get there, not doing double work, trying to cut down on fat and bulking up because I know they like their players lean. So this is a big part of I’ve been trying to do.”"
