The 2021 Notre Dame football team will kick off their season in two months, traveling to Tallahassee to take on the Florida State Seminoles. As we inch closer to the summer months, there are still plenty of starting positions that are up for grabs, as the program looks to replace 14 players who are now in the NFL.

Though they lost a bunch of talent, there is still a ton remaining, especially on defense, and we look at three bold predictions on that side of the ball here.

Irish have a top-5 defense

During the 2020 college football season, the Irish ended up as a top-25 defense, thanks to the play of All-American linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, and standout safety, Kyle Hamilton. While JOK is now in the NFL, Hamilton returns and leads a defense that is loaded with veteran talent on all three levels.

With new defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman coming in, the Irish have the talent, and the staff not only be one of the best defenses in the country in 2021 but a top-5 defense when all is said and done. The offense may struggle to find its way early on this season, but this is a defense that is going to be ready to go from Day 1.
