Notre Dame football: 3 bold predictions for the 2021 defense

Kyle Hamilton nabs five-plus interceptions

After hauling in four interceptions during his freshman season, teams shied away from Hamilton last year, and for good reason. Hamilton is the kind of ball-hawking safety that can take away one-half of the field, and teams scheme their offense around attacking other areas when he is on the field.

Still, Hamilton is going to have a monster season in Year 3, one that should be his last season in South Bend, and Freeman is going to put him in a position to be very opportunistic. Though he has five interceptions in his career, he may rack up five interceptions this season alone, which would push him towards being a top-10 player in program history in terms of the statistical category.

While there are a ton of questions on the offensive side of the ball, the defense is going to be solid and should lead the Irish to plenty of wins. Hamilton has the talent to be one of the best overall players in the country in 2021, and by interception five or more passes, he clinches his spot as a top-5 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
