Notre Dame football: Previewing the 2021 Quarterbacks

Potential Depth Chart Week 1

In the last few seasons, the quarterback spot was not really an issue during the summer months, as we knew that Book would be the starting quarterback. However, all eyes will be on the position group as we inch closer to the Florida State game, as there is no clear starter as of July 10.

That means that all the quarterbacks are going to get a chance to prove what they have, and it will be up to Kelly, and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees to decide who puts this team in the best position to win now. Remember, this is a team with a very good defense, an elite running back and tight end, and an offensive line that should be one of the best in the country once again in 2021.

The missing piece is the quarterback spot, and we should start to get a clearer picture as to who the starter will be as we get closer to the middle of August. Will it be the graduate transfer in Coan, who is a proven winner at the FBS level, or a youngster like Pyne or Buchner? Either way, whoever takes over is filling some big shoes.

As we begin the summer months, here is how the depth chart should look:

  • Jack Coan, Drew Pyne, Tyler Buchner, Brendon Clark, Ron Powlus III
