Notre Dame football: Previewing the 2021 Running Backs

Who’s Here?

We have already discussed Williams, who would go on to be the ACC’s Rookie of the Year, as well as the conference’s second-team running back. Williams proved as a redshirt freshman that he can be effective in both the run, and passing game, and is a very capable blocker as well, something that will serve him at the next level.

Behind Williams last season, and this year, will be Chris Tyree, who showed flashes of brilliance during his true freshman season in 2020. On most other teams, Tyree would be the starting running back, but even as the backup to Williams this Fall, he is going to impact the game in so many ways.

C’Bo Flemister returns to the Irish in 2021, and he will be used as a likely third option in the run game, although he will be pushed by two true freshmen in both Audric Estime and Logan Diggs. Both Estime and Diggs are highly-touted prospects, and both serve different roles, with Estime being a monster short-yardage guy, and Diggs being a menace in space.

Overall, this is an exciting group of backs.
