5 Notre Dame football players with the most to prove in 2021

No. 1: Jack Coan

When it comes to the entire college football landscape, few quarterbacks have as much to prove as Notre Dame’s presumed starter, Jack Coan. After losing his starting job at Wisconsin, a school he took to a Big Ten title game, Coan lands in South Bend as a graduate transfer and will have to replace a legend in Ian Book.

Book left school as the all-time winningest quarterback in program history, so these are some pretty big shoes to fill. For Coan, he is not only out to prove he can keep the winning ways with the Irish, but also that he can stave off the likes of Drew Pyne and Tyler Buchner, two younger quarterbacks looking to take over as the starter in South Bend.

The Irish need all five of these players to have monster seasons in 2021, as they look to get back to the College Football Playoff for the third time in four seasons. There is a ton of talent coming in via the 2022 recruiting class, but this season, the Irish will need all hands on deck to replace some elite talent from a year ago.
