The Notre Dame football program is loaded at the tight end position, making it one of the better position groups heading into the 2021 season.

During the 2020 college football season, the Notre Dame football team got outstanding play from their tight end position. True freshman Michael Mayer stepped up in a big way, hauling in 42 catches for 450 yards while becoming the best young tight end in the country for a team that went undefeated during the regular season.

After the season, Tommy Tremble shocked the Irish by declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft, but in the end, it proved to be the right move, as he ended up being a third-round pick. He has a perfect skill set for the next level, and with Mayer emerging as the No. 1 tight end in South Bend, the time was right for him to turn pro.

In addition to Tremble, Brock Wright also turned pro, but he had to do it as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Detroit Lions. With Tremble and Wright gone, there is plenty of space now for guys to step into new roles behind Mayer, making this a fun group to keep an eye on this summer.

With that said, let us look at the 2021 position group at tight end, including who is here, the depth chart, and expectations.
