Notre Dame football: Previewing the 2021 Tight Ends

Expectations in 2021

The expectations for this group are high in 2021, as Mayer will be expected to play an even bigger role in the passing game, especially with so many question marks at wide receiver. The combination of Mayer at tight end and Williams at running back will be the focal points of this offense and for good reason.

However, while Mayer will stand out, we should see other guys step into major roles on this offense, including Bauman, who I believe could be a breakout player. Berrong is going to be a player that fans love as a true freshman, as he is not only fast but is an elite blocker, putting his body on the line when it counts.

If the Irish are to anything of substance on the offensive side of the ball, the tight end group has to be outstanding in 2021. Coan is going to lean on Mayer in a big way, and he is likely to continue to be a dominant force for this offense, but he certainly will not be a one-man gang this Fall.
