Notre Dame football: Ranking the Irish’s 2021 schedule by entertainment value

No. 12: Toledo, Week 2

One of the great things about Notre Dame’s schedule every year is that there isn’t an FCS opponent on the schedule. That doesn’t, however, mean that they don’t ever have a game on the schedule worth skipping over. That’s just about where this Toledo game falls, as the best weekend of the season for a Fall wedding.

Now, this isn’t to insult Toledo or the MAC in any way. Toledo is generally towards the top of the MAC, though they were closer to middling last season. It can also be argued that the MAC is the worst FBS conference too.

All of this means is that there is such a clear talent gap between Toledo and Notre Dame football that this shouldn’t be a particularly close game, and coming from the MAC there is very little intrigue outside of the game itself.

For fans of Notre Dame, this will be about making sure that the roster, particularly on offense, is working as well as it possibly can be and players are adjusting back to the season. This should also offer an opportunity for Notre Dame to get work for a lot of the younger players on the roster, like Tyler Buchner. That should keep the game worth watching through the end, at the very least. Other than that, though, this should be a snoozer.
