Notre Dame football: 4 Reasons why Kyren Williams will win the Maxwell Award

He Already Broke Through

Coming into 2020, very few people thought that Kyren Williams was going to be the number one option at running back, let alone be one of the best running backs in all of college football. But there he was. Being a surprise, though, a lot of people outside of Notre Dame circles didn’t notice him until after the Clemson game.

After that, Williams was an established threat. Still, players like Travis Etienne and Najee Harris were already better known and leading the push towards award season.

That won’t be an issue in 2021, though. Kyren Williams is established and well-known now. Everyone is going to be paying attention to him from the start of the season, so he has a much better chance to get momentum for award season early and hold onto it.

Notre Dame will be the only game on Sunday night of Week 1 when they go to Florida State. A big game for Williams, which isn’t unlikely given the rest of the offense, will make sure that he stays in the minds of everyone throughout the course of the season.
