The Notre Dame football team may have a lot to prove in 2021, but they are ranked low in a recent top-25 preseason ranking by NCAA.com.

The 2021 college football season is so close you can almost feel it, as we are inching closer to August with every passing day. This is the time of year where we are seeing the preseason Watch Lists be announced, as the Maxwell, Bednarik, and Davey O’Brien’s lists have already come out.

This is also the time of year where you see a ton of preseason rankings, as the teams get ready to start their preparation for the upcoming season. After losing 14 players to the NFL, the Irish have a lot of work to do on both sides of the ball, and that has led to them being disrespected in a bunch of preseason rankings already.

Notre Dame football ranked outside of top-10

Recently, NCAA.com put together their preseason list for the top-25 in college football, and it was interesting to say the least. For the Irish, they saw themselves fall outside of the top-10 in this list, landing at No. 13, which is way too low in terms of where they should kick off the 2021 season.

In fact, the Irish are behind one team they play, the Cincinnati Bearcats, who came in at No. 8 overall, and are one spot ahead of North Carolina. There are a few teams ranked about the Irish that do not make much sense, including LSU, who went 5-5 last season, and Oregon, who went 4-3 last season, and do not have a ton coming back.

Notre Dame football may not be a top-5 team, at least in the preseason before we see how things start for them, they should at least be in the top-10. In fact, ranking them any lower than No. 7 overall is a bit of stretch in my opinion.

While Notre Dame football may not be going into the season looking like a powerhouse, the truth is, they have the players to step up and lead this team to another monster season. They have veterans where it counts, are solid up front on both sides of the ball, and with how many All-Americans they could have, this is a team that is going to surprise a lot of people in 2021.
