Notre Dame football: One question for each offensive position in 2021

Quarterback: Who starts?

One of the biggest questions concerning the 2021 Notre Dame football team comes at the most important position in all of sports. In 2021, the Irish will need to replace a legend in Ian Book, who left school with more wins than any other signal-caller in program history, and who would go on to be a fourth-round pick of the New Orleans Saints in the 2021 NFL Draft.

To make up for the loss of Book, the Irish decided to bring in a veteran, adding Jack Coan as a graduate transfer from Wisconsin. Coan has had success at the collegiate level, but he is being pressed by two younger players, as sophomore Drew Pyne and true freshman Tyler Buchner have looked very good this spring.

Overall, this is a battle that should go on for the entire summer, and that could end up bringing the best out of whichever signal-caller is under center against Florida State in Game No. 1. For the Irish, they may want to go with a veteran, especially with all the issues on this side of the ball, making Coan the early favorite to win the job.
