Notre Dame football: One question for each offensive position in 2021

Wide Receiver: Who steps up to be the team’s WR1?

Last season, the Notre Dame football program saw Ben Skowronek and Javon McKinley step up at the wide receiver position, and both parlayed that into a job in the NFL. Skowronek was a draft pick of the Los Angeles Rams, and McKinley signed as an undrafted free agent, but early indications are that he has a solid chance to make the team.

In 2021, the Irish will need to completely revamp the starting lineup, but they do have the veteran talent to do so. In fact, there are plenty of wide receivers on this roster that had some big expectations on them when they were recruiting, and maybe this is the year they finally reach their potential.

To make matters more urgent for the upperclassmen, some talented true freshmen are coming in, so the time is now for them to step up and become key weapons on this offense. Kevin Austin Jr., Avery Davis, and Braden Lenzy will get the first crack to be the WR1 for the Irish in 2021, making this one of the more intriguing position groups to watch this summer.
