Notre Dame football: Kyren Williams should run wild against Virginia Tech
The Notre Dame football team takes on Virginia Tech on the road, in a game that could get really ugly when all is said and done.
Like the Notre Dame football team, Virginia Tech has one of those helmets that we’ve gotten used to seeing and associating with greatness, even if it’s been a long time since they’ve been consistently good. Under head coach Justin Fuente, they only have a 38-26 record, with one 10-win season. That’s going into year six, and the fans are fed up with him.
Can you blame them, though?
Even though legend Frank Beamer couldn’t get past eight wins in his last four seasons, everyone had gotten more than used to winning 10 or more games, as they did it in each of their first eight seasons in the ACC.
Of course, that was then and this is now. Now, you have to ask the question, “Is Virginia Tech capable of doing that again? Are there too many Power Five programs surrounding us, fighting us for recruits, to get to that point again? Or, is Justin Fuente the issue, and this program is fine to go out there and win again?”
That’s probably going to be decided this upcoming season, even if fans of the Hokies think it was decided last season and are ready to move on from the struggling coach. Though, calling him a struggling coach may not be entirely fair. Virginia Tech has a winning record under Fuente. They just aren’t meeting expectations, like Nebraska under Frank Solich. It’s hard to follow a legend.
On the field, Virginia Tech has people divided. Some see a team with plenty of potential that just needs to put everything together. Others are noticing the gaps in their roster, and don’t think that they can play consistently enough to truly threaten in the ACC.
The last time they played Notre Dame football, Virginia Tech gave them a scare following an embarrassing loss to Michigan. Ultimately, Notre Dame football pulled it out on the back of an Ian Book two minute drill that gave him confidence and springboarded Notre Dame to 16 straight wins.
