Notre Dame football: Which quarterback has the most to prove in 2021?

The case for Coan

Jack Coan has arrived in South Bend with the expectation that he is going to be the starting quarterback in 2021, and in all fairness, he has not done much to lose the job. In fact, from what we have seen from him so far, and at Wisconsin, he would be a perfect replacement for Ian Book this season.

In Coan, the Irish would have an established college quarterback ready to come in and continue all the work the program has put in over the last three seasons, making it to the College Football Playoff twice. He is the kind of quarterback who may not win you games, but will certainly not lose you games, as he is tremendously accurate, and protects the ball.

With Wisconsin, Coan did a great job leaning on an elite running back, and that is something he will be asked to do with the Irish as well. All he has to prove this summer is that he can be the starter against Florida State, as there is no long-term goal for Coan in South Bend other than winning a bunch of games in his only season with the program.
