Notre Dame football: Which running back has the most to prove in 2021?

The case for Kyren Williams

This is a huge season for Kyren Williams, who burst onto the scene as a redshirt freshman this past season, rushing for over 1,000 yards for the Irish. Williams was a key piece to an Irish team who had major question marks at wide receiver, becoming the ACC’s Offensive Rookie of the Year in his breakout season.

In 2021, Williams will be looking to prove that not only was 2020 not a fluke season but that he is possibly ready to take the next step forward. This is a player who could end up being one of the top running backs selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, as he has that rare ability to be a three-down back at the next level.

Williams is strong on the ground, in the passing game, and as a blocker, something that is going to make him a coveted player come draft time next year. For the Irish, he needs to continue to carry the load, especially for a team that still has question marks at wide receiver and an offensive line that is completely revamped in 2021.
