Examining the different two-deep battles on the Notre Dame football roster less than a month before the 2021 season starts.

When Julian Love left the Cotton Bowl game against Clemson with an injury, the lack of depth on the two-deep struck. Clemson attacked a weak Notre Dame football secondary without Love all second quarter, which became the only quarter where Clemson was able to push the ball downfield and it was enough to turn the game into a blowout. Clearly a good two-deep matters across the board.

Going into summer ball, there is going to be a lot of two-deep position battles up for grabs. Frankly, all of them are up for grabs, if you work harder and develop into a better player than the player ahead of you, and there is certainly a ton of talent on this roster on both sides of the ball.

But, at Notre Dame, what are going to be the most important position battles? Which spots are up for grabs, and which will have the most impact on the season going forward? Remember, this is a Notre Dame football team with a lot of starting jobs up for grabs, this is after 14 players left for the NFL from last year’s team, so expect intense competition leading up to the Florida State game.

Here are a few two-deep battles to consider and look at before the start of the season.
