The Notre Dame football program unveiled their 2021 Shamrock Series jersey on Monday, and there is a lot to like about it.

The 2021 Notre Dame football team will kick off their slate on the road against Florida State, taking on the Seminoles in a Monday night primetime battle. From there, the Irish will go home to take on both Toledo and Purdue, before a crucial battle against the Wisconsin Badgers.

Presumed starting quarterback Jack Coan is a former starter for the Badgers, leading them to a Big Ten title game after the 2019 regular season. Now with the Irish, Coan has displayed excellent leadership qualities since arriving on campus, and this game is not only huge for him personally, but it will be the Irish’s Shamrock Series game in 2021.

Every year, we await the unveiling of the jerseys for the Shamrock Series, and Notre Dame football tweeted it from their official Twitter page on Monday morning.

Notre Dame football to take on Wisconsin inside Soldier Field

The game against the Badgers will be played inside Soldier Field, adding even more intrigue to one of the bigger matchups on the Irish’s schedule this season. Wisconsin has been consistent ranked as a preseason top-25 team, so while Florida State, Toledo, and Purdue could be easier matchups for the Irish, this one will be tough.

Wisconsin has a solid young quarterback in Graham Mertz, who took over when Coan was injured and never relinquished the job, and tight end Jake Ferguson has NFL written all over him. On defense, Wisconsin was the best in the Big Ten last season, and linebackers Jack Sanborn and Leo Chenal are arguably the best duo in that conference.

This is a huge game for many reasons, and if Coan can lead the Irish to a victory over his old team, the team could have the momentum they need heading into a monster game against Cincinnati the following week. The early-season schedule has some tough sledding, including Wisconsin, which could be their first real test of the 2021 campaign.
