Notre Dame football: Where Irish rookies land on 1st unofficial depth charts

A current starter in South Beach

We start with the only member of the 2020 Notre Dame football team in line for a starting job entering the first preseason weekend. That player is Liam Eichenberg, who was the first member of the Irish taken in the 2021 NFL Draft, landing with the Miami Dolphins with the No. 42 overall pick in the second round.

Since landing in South Beach, Eichenberg has been impressive, and despite the fact he was an elite offensive tackle with the Irish, he is making the move inside to offensive guard. Currently, Eichenberg is the starter at left guard for an up-and-coming Miami Dolphins team and could be one of the pieces that finally get them to the playoffs.

We have seen Eichenberg dominate at the college level, as he pretty much made sure Ian Book was not touched the last two seasons. For the Dolphins, he will try and protect the frontside for left-handed quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, while trying to clear holes inside for the likes of Myles Gaskins and Malcolm Brown.
