The Notre Dame football program has won 24 straight games at home, but extending that streak is going to be tough for the Irish in 2021.

The 2021 Notre Dame football team will be looking to continue their winning ways, especially inside Notre Dame Stadium, where they have won 24 straight games. That is good for the second-most in the entire FBS but is one that is going to be very tough to extend in 2021.

Last season, the Irish had a fairly easy home schedule early on, taking on the likes of Duke, Florida State, and South Florida to name a few. However, they were able to extend this home win streak due to their victory over Clemson, the No. 1 team in the country at the time, but a team also playing without star quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Still, a win is a win, and it set up an undefeated regular season for the Irish and an eventual spot in the College Football Playoff. To return to the CFP, the Irish will have to be as good at home as they were in 2020.

Notre Dame football has a tough 2021 home schedule

While the Irish start the season off with a soft home schedule, the month of October is going to be tough, starting with the Cincinnati Bearcats on October 2. That is a huge game, not only for the program but for Brian Kelly and Marcus Freeman, who used to coach at the school and would like nothing more than to show they can beat a potential top-10 team early in the season.

The Irish will close out the month in back-to-back weeks against a tough USC team, and a UNC squad that also could be top-10 at that point. If the team wants to continue to dominate inside Notre Dame Stadium, they have three chances in October to prove that they can beat top-25 opponents in front of the home fans.

The good thing is that these games are in fact home games, and after not having fans in the stands in 2020, you can be sure Notre Dame Stadium is going to be rocking in 2021. The Irish open up their home schedule against Toledo and Purdue, two very winnable games, but after that, trouble lurks in teams like UNC and USC, so buckle up for what should be some incredible home games.
