Notre Dame football: Looking at the QB position in 2021 and beyond

2022 and beyond

Looking ahead to the next offseason, this is definitely going to be a position group to watch, as Pyne will be a junior, and looking to be the starter for the final two years on campus. However, Buchner is going to return as a redshirt freshman, hopefully, and a lot of Irish fans feel that he should be the answer moving forward.

Then there is Steve Angeli, a top quarterback prospect from the state of New Jersey, who many feel should come in and challenge for a starting job right away. While there are no quarterback commitments for the 2023 class as of yet, the Irish are in play for some big-time prospects in that class as well, so the cupboard definitely will not be empty moving forward.

Over the next few offseason, the battle will rage on within this position group, and all the quarterbacks will only be better because of it.

In 2021, and beyond, the position has great depth and players that are capable of taking the baton from Book. Coan is going to do a terrific job protecting the football and taking his shots when he needs to, and when all is said and done, I believe he will be the perfect player to bridge the gap from Book, to the next long-term starter in South Bend.
