Notre Dame football: One offensive playmaker to worry about on each 2021 opponent

Notre Dame football: Offensive star to worry about on each 2021 opponent

Game No. 6: Virginia Tech, QB Braxton Burmeister

The quarterback position at Virginia Tech is an interesting one, and the Hokies will likely turn to former Oregon transfer Braxton Burmeister under center in 2021. Burmeister is a dual-threat quarterback who appeared in six games for Virginia Tech last season, throwing two touchdowns, and rushing for two more.

With Khalil Herbert gone, the quarterback room emptied, and Burmeister is the one that head coach Justin Fuente will turn to. Last season, the Hokies led the ACC in rushing yards, but with all of the wide receivers returning for another go-around, we could see Burmeister take it to the air more times than usual in this one.

Virginia Tech is going to be an interesting game for the Irish, as it will be their first game inside someone else’s building since the Week 1 matchup in Tallahassee. For Burmeister, he has to try and take care of the ball better, and anytime you face a quarterback with his skill set, you have to be wary that he is going to take off and run.
